is a veteran New Orleans musician, former park ranger with the National Park Service, actor, photographer, book author, former high school biology teacher, former college football All-American, and former NFL player (Kansas City Chiefs). Sunpie has traveled to over 50 countries playing his own style of what he calls Afro-Louisiana music incorporating blues, zydeco, gospel, Caribbean, and African influenced rhythms and melodies. He is a multi-instrumentalist, master accordion and harmonica player, also piano, rubboard, talking drum, and djembe. He learned accordion from some of the best Zydeco pioneers in Louisiana, including Fernest Arceneaux, John Delafose, and Clayton Sampy. He has performed across the US and around the globe with Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots. In 2018, they performed with Carlos Vives in Colombia at the 51st Vallenato Festival. Sunpie has recorded six critically acclaimed CDs with his compositions featured in 16 Hollywood film productions. Sunpie is also a former member of the Paul Simon Band and embarked on a 58 city world tour “Paul Simon and Sting Together,” (2014-2016).

Nomadic at heart and a creator at their core, Zoe Boekbinder (they/them) was born on a farm into a family of four children. While music wasn't very present in their upbringing, Boekbinder recalls some of their first memories as making up songs. For them, music is as natural and as necessary as breath, and the way they engage as an activist. Boekbinder was raised, in part, by their grandfather — a Holocaust survivor. Having survived the horrific, prejudiced violence of his past, he instilled in Boekbinder a deep belief in justice, equality, and anti-racism. Songwriting has become their resistance language, a way to lift up the voices and stories of people who are marginalized by capitalism. Using their music as a platform to bring light to stories and voices otherwise unheard, lost, or forgotten, Boekbinder continues their empowering work from their hometown in New Orleans, LA, performing both as a solo artist and in collaborations with artists including Ani DiFranco, Amanda Palmer, Jason Webley, Neil Gaiman, Mal Blum, and Mirah.

is a singer-songwriter from New Orleans with a background rich in jazz, folk and popular music. She is a charming performer, devoted guitarist and her voice is instantly recognizable. Quintana attended The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and received a CODOFIL heritage scholarship, which sent her to France as a teen. Quintana splits her time between the US and France, working alongside Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil, saxophonist Raphael Imbert, touring on her own repertoire with French and American musicians. Quintana is a member of the Pantheatre (Linda Wise and Enrique Pardo) as well as a hatha yoga instructor. In her latest studio recording, Daddy Lies (Independent 2017), Quintana collaborates with Mark Bingham. Quintana grew up in New Orleans where live music is ingrained in many aspects of daily life. In 2010 she went from singing on the streets of Provence with a traveling circus, to the stages of the Jazz and Heritage Festival and later, the Lincoln Center for Mid-Summer Swing with The New Orleans Moonshiners. In 2012, Quintana was awarded an artist residency at A Studio in the Woods where she composed “Miss River,” music with water.

Courtney Bryan is “a pianist and composer of panoramic interests” (New York Times). Her music is in conversation with various musical genres, including jazz and other types of experimental music, as well as traditional gospel, spirituals, and hymns. Bryan has academic degrees from Oberlin Conservatory (BM), Rutgers University (MM), and Columbia University (DMA) with advisor George Lewis, and completed postdoctoral studies in the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University. Bryan is currently an Assistant Professor of Music in the Newcomb Department of Music at Tulane University, and the Mary Carr Patton Composer-in-Residence with the Jacksonville Symphony. She was the 2018 music recipient of the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, a 2019 Bard College Freehand Fellow, a 2019-20 recipient of the Samuel Barber Rome Prize in Music Composition, and is currently a recipient of a 2020-21 Civitella Ranieri Fellowship, and a 2020 United States Artists Fellow.

He studied music at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and was a professor of music for the Dominican Republic Secretary of State for Culture National School System. Fermín is continually working on several musical projects in the Gulf South and around the US such as Merengue4-FOUR, a musical project focused on Dominican Music (Bachata & Merengue Típico), Fermín’s Latin Fusion Orchestra which performs original salsa-inspired compositions, and Fermín Acústico, a musical concept based on guitar and voice. With all his projects, he performs original compositions based on his fusion of different sounds and musical rhythms. In 2019, he released his first book of poems in Spanish and English entitled, “Pisando Mi Sombra” (Walking My Shadow).

Alexis Marceaux is multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from New Orleans. Early on, at age nine she began taking private voice lessons and classically her voice through to college. Taking her knowledge of rhythm, songwriting and classical training to the Musical Theater department at NOCCA allowed Marceaux to become skilled in every of performing. Returning to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina after studying music at Southeastern Louisiana University she formed Alexis & the Samurai and soon thereafter, Sweet Crude. Presently, she keeps a busy schedule touring internationally. Marceaux has just come off of an extensive European tour and has released Sweet Crude's debut album on Verve Records. Her 2020 calendar included appearances at New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo had it not been canceled due to COVID-19.

His fourth solo album of original material, Lucky One, was released in February 2020.

Glen David Andrews, a native son of New Orleans, is a warrior for cultural preservation in New Orleans at a time when indigenous traditions are being threatened. His remarkable singing voice and commanding trombone sound (both powerful, direct, resonant, and with just enough rasp) as well as his disarmingly honest manner have provided whatever the situation calls for: beauty, truth, compassion, anger, joy or all of the above. Andrews comes from a storied extended family of musicians. He was born in the historic Tremé neighborhood which many consider to be the oldest black community in the United States. Transfixed by the magic and mystery of the city’s second-line parades, Andrews and his older brother, Derrick Tabb of the Rebirth Brass Band, along with their younger cousin Troy Trombone Shorty, soaked up life’s musical lessons by learning the history of the brass band tradition firsthand from iconic figures like Tuba Fats. They also learned the power of the city’s Mardi Gras Indian culture. Starting on the bass drum as a child, Andrews soon picked up the trombone; he was blowing a joyful noise by the time he was 12. He practiced his musicianship and showmanship with the city’s most energetic brass bands, from New Birth and Li’l Rascals to ReBirth and Treme. SInce those early days he has toured the country and the world as an ambassador of New Orleans music and culture.

Gina’s 2012 release, Promised Land, was top ten on the Folk DJ List in 2012.

Dr. Jee-Yeoun Ko is a Korean native cellist, educator, and concert organizer. Her education and careers in Asia, Europe, and the United States have developed a wide interest in the many musical styles such as tango, pop, Asian folk tunes, and jazz, along with classical music. Artists she has collaborated with include Marta Casals, Aldo Parisot, Ellis Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Phil Wood, and the Faubourg Quartet (of which she is the founder and leader). She was featured at an event in honor of Dalai Lama and congressman John Lewis, and performed a selection of Korean folk tunes. Dr. Ko is known for producing big-hearted benefit concerts such as: “Dr. Ko’s Coats-for-Kids Concert,” disaster relief concerts, and many other fundraising events to support education and communities in New Orleans where she currently resides. In fall 2019, Dr. Ko joined Xavier University as a string professor after teaching at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts as a chair of the classical instrumental department for 11 years.

Grupo Yurumeina is a ensemble of Honduran musicians living and playing in the city of New Orleans, enlivening audiences with a potent mixture of voices, conch shells, and drums. The group plays and sings music in the native language of it's members, Garífuna. The Garíifuna are a unique people, proud and culturally distinct from the rest of Central Americans. Using the rhythms of Punta and Paranda, Grupo Yurumeina traces an ancestral line from the north coast of Honduras to the shores of St. Vincent Island ("Yurumein" in Garífuna), and to the west coast of the African continent, where the origins of these rhythms traveled with enslaved peoples brought to the "New World." This is music to enjoy and to dance to. We hope the songs of Grupo Yurumeina get to you up and moving!

Helen Gillet is a singer-songwriter and surrealist-archeologist exploring synthesized sounds, texture, and rhythm using an acoustic cello. For someone with her varied background, New Orleans, with its mix of cultures and musics, seemed like a natural place to call home. She was born in Belgium, raised in Singapore from the ages of 2 to 11, and routinely shuttled between the homelands of her Belgian father and American mother. Over the years — working in New Orleans with musicians of all stripes, from avant-garde jazz and classical to pop and funk — Gillet has developed a singular polyglot style. The core of her work is solo performance with live looping, layering cello parts and vocal lines. Rhythmic figures emerge with bowed or plucked ostinatos or a variety of rubbing and slapping on the body of the cello, then enhanced with melodies played or sung in her haunting alto. Her mixed musical vocabulary is commensurate with her disparate travels — French chanson of the 1940s, Belgian folk tunes sung in Walloon, a mix of rock and punk from the likes of PJ Harvey and X-Ray Spex, and her own affecting originals, like audience favorite “Julien,” sung in a mix of French and English. Gillet’s solo performance is known for its enigmatic quality as she fabricates each song with innovative use of the cello and true mastery of live looping technology.

The Goodman Family has been instrumental in preserving this culture in diverse and much deeper ways. Big Chief Kevin Goodman was the first recording artist in 1992 with Here Come The Indians Now, and the latest CD is Live At Jazzfest 2013-Present.
Goodman has noted, “This was something I inherited from my father. That was his dream and his legacy. Growing up being a part of it, it grew on me and it became a part of me. I understood the reason why I was putting on that suit and the regalia. Why I masked for Mardi Gras is because I wanted to represent the Indian that helped my ancestors when they got free. St. Joseph’s Night is real spiritual.”
Big Chief Kevin Goodman re-formed the tribe, The Flaming Arrows, leading family and friends in the sewing tradition of costume-making and irresistible performances throughout the world. Traveling worldwide with movies, short films as well as bios, which include What You Gonna Do When The World Is On Fire, Walking Down Caliborne, Austin City Limits, WWOZ radio and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, just to name a few. His talent, craft and skill are unmatched. His legacy belongs to the world and beyond. In this video, Big Chief Kevin is joined by Flaming Arrows, Leroy Ross, Bruce Merritt, and Kingston Williams.

Clarinetist Evan Christopher first arrived in New Orleans in 1994 after university studies in his native Southern California. For Evan, New Orleans and its musical heritage marks the starting point of his “Clarinet Road“ journey. The personal style he has developed combines virtuosity with an enthusiastic commitment to exploring the full range of possibilities for the New Orleans clarinet tradition.
Although the global health crisis has severely curtailed his once active touring and live performance schedule, Evan remains active as a recording artist and advocate for the New Orleans cultural community and music education. His website, ClarinetRoad.com, has resources for historically informed mentoring and he performs a weekly live show with pianist David Torkanowsky.

The Original Pinettes Brass Band, World's Only All female Brass Band, was formed by Mr. Jefferey Herbert in 1991. The Original Pinettes Brass Band can be seen at many different venues, such as: The Jazz & Heritage Festival, The Satchmo Festival, The Essence Music Festival, and The French Quarter Festival, just to name a few. They also experienced traveling overseas when they performed in Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara Turkey and Ascona Jazz Fest in Ascona, Switzerland. The band has very much in common with the other male brass bands around the city. The only difference being is the Original Pinettes are all females! The ladies gained more respect when they were crowned the winners of the 2013 Red Bull "Street Kings" brass band blowout competition when they beat three other male brass bands changing the name to Red Bull "Street QUEENS!" The ladies have also performed with Arcade Fire and Katy Perry.
Some of the ladies specialize in other careers, also. From college students to a computer tech, some of the ladies are mothers and wives. Nothing will get in the way of these ladies who consider one another sisters. "We're not blood related, we're love related...." says leader, Christie Jourdain.
Today, the band is still on a journey of becoming the best in the business and to take over this male dominant industry. The Original Pinettes Brass Band dream is to travel worldwide and to show everyone that music definitely is a universal language!
